Marble Slab Creamery Pakistan All Set To Support Gilgit-Baltistan Girl Football League

Global ice-cream giant Marble Slab Creamery has signed an official agreement with the Gilgit-Baltistan Girl Football League (GB-GFL) for promoting girls playing football professionally in the region. The MoU signing took place at the DHA (Lahore) outlet launch of Marble Slab Creamery Pakistan.

The GB-GFL is an initiative that was taken by two teenaged sisters Karishma Inayat and Sumira Inayat in 2016 to develop and run a football league solely for young girls between the ages of 12-16 from the Gilgit-Baltistan region. The first tournament of GB-GFL took place in July 2017 and received a very encouraging response despite being organized with limited resources. 8 teams participated in the week-long tournament after being trained at an exclusive camp set up prior. The GB-GFL is now working on the 2018 tournament which will be taking place in Chipurson (northern Hunza region).

Marble Slab Creamery will be donating 10/- PKR to GB-GFL from the sale of each ice-cream scoop. This collaboration to promote local football is in line with Marble Slab Creamery’s global objectives. The popular ice-cream brand has frequently lent their support to independent local football teams across the world by donating generously, hosting charity events and fundraisers.

Speaking further about this collaboration between Marble Slab Creamery Pakistan and GB-GFL, the CEO Moaaz Bukhari said “It is definitely an honor and pleasure for us to sign up with the GB-GFL. Story of Karishma and Sumaira inspired us a lot and we believe that empowerment for women can be achieved by participation in sports. Marble Slab Creamery is a global leader when it comes to Ice Cream and collaborating with a sport like Football is in line with our global objectives.

Sharing their excitement about having Marble Slab Creamery Pakistan on-board for their initiative, Karishma Inayat said “We are overwhelmed by our partnership with a global brand like Marble Slab Creamery. We think that this arrangement will go a long way in the development of this sport in Gilgit Baltistan which is currently lacking basic facilities like football pitches, coaching, education etc.
