Snapchat faced a major global outage on Monday, leaving millions of users unable to send snaps or messages. The issue, which affected Pakistan and several other countries, was linked to a major technical failure in Amazon Web Services (AWS), one of the world’s largest cloud service providers.
Snapchat Down Worldwide
According to reports from Downdetector, users from the United States, the United Kingdom, India, Australia, and Pakistan began facing disruptions around 12 PM Pakistan time. In Pakistan, affected cities included Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, where users reported being unable to log in, send snaps, or use audio and video features.
Many took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express frustration over the sudden outage, as the hashtag #SnapchatDown started trending globally.
AWS Failure Behind the Outage
The root cause of the disruption was traced to AWS’s US-East-1 region, which temporarily went offline. This outage also affected several other major global platforms that rely on AWS cloud infrastructure.
International media outlets, including Reuters and The Guardian, confirmed that the Amazon Web Services issue spread rapidly, impacting multiple apps and websites that depend on its network.
