The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast light to moderate rain in Karachi this weekend. According to the latest advisory, showers are expected from the evening of August 1 and may continue until August 2.
The forecast offers some relief from the recent hot and humid weather. Officials do not expect heavy rainfall in the city. However, several areas may receive light showers and experience cooler temperatures.
Weather systems to affect Sindh
The PMD said a deep depression formed over the Bay of Bengal and later moved into Madhya Pradesh, India. Meteorologists expect the system to weaken within the next 12 hours. It will likely turn into a low pressure area during the following 24 to 36 hours.
Moist winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal continue to move into Pakistan. At the same time, a western weather system remains active over the country’s northern regions. Together, these systems will bring rainfall to several parts of Sindh.
The PMD expects intermittent rain in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mithi, Sanghar, and Hyderabad. These areas may receive showers from the evening or night of July 31 until August 2.
Karachi will likely receive light to moderate rain from the evening of August 1 through August 2. The PMD has confirmed that the current weather system is unlikely to produce heavy rainfall in the city.
