In a historic moment for Pakistani tennis, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi has been elected as the new president of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) for a four-year term spanning from 2024 to 2028. The election, held at the PTF SDA Tennis Complex in Islamabad, witnessed representatives from all affiliated units participating in the process.
Following a closely contested election, Aisam emerged victorious with 8 votes, securing the presidential position against his rival, Maj General (retd) Asghar Nawaz, who garnered 7 votes. The election results also ushered in Lt. Col. (retd) Zia Uddin Tufail as the Secretary General of PTF, and M. Arif Qureshi as the Treasurer.
Zia Uddin clinched 8 votes against Suleman Javed’s 7, while Arif Qureshi secured 9 votes against Umar Farooq’s 6.
Expressing his excitement after the win, Aisam stated, “In my 25 years of playing career, I tried my best to bring laurels for my country, and now, as the president of the federation, I will be striving to deliver my best.” The 43-year-old tennis ace emphasized his commitment to elevating Pakistan tennis to new heights and working for the betterment of players, coaches, and trainers.
Drawing from his extensive international experience, Aisam pledged to share his knowledge of the game with Pakistani players, stating, “It’s my goal to take Pakistan tennis to new heights and work for the betterment of players, coaches, and trainers. I’ll not disappoint my nation.”
With Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi at the helm, the Pakistan Tennis Federation looks poised for a period of growth, development, and increased international prominence.
