On the evening of June 11, 2025, residents of the UAE were treated to a truly spectacular celestial event the rare Strawberry Moon. This mesmerizing full moon lit up the night sky, marking the last full moon of spring and appearing in a form not seen in the region for nearly two decades.
What makes this particular Strawberry Moon so special is not just its beauty but its astronomical rarity. This is the first time in 18 years that the moon has appeared at such a low angle in the northern hemisphere’s sky, a phenomenon known as a lunar standstill, which occurs only once every 18.6 years. The next chance to witness such a configuration won’t come until 2043, making this a once-in-a-generation sight.
Strawberry Moon Glows Golden Over UAE
The moon rose above the eastern horizon at approximately 7:32 p.m. UAE time, casting a warm, golden, or orange glow. This striking coloration is caused by atmospheric particles and is most vivid when the moon is close to the horizon. The optical illusion made the moon appear much larger than usual, a phenomenon known as the “moon illusion.”
For the best viewing experience, skywatchers headed to open spaces such as deserts, beaches, and rooftop areas with minimal light pollution. These spots offered an unobstructed view of the lunar marvel as it traveled across the night sky.

Although the name “Strawberry Moon” might suggest a pink or red hue, it actually originates from the strawberry harvesting season among Native American tribes. Different cultures also recognize this moon by other names, including the “Rose Moon,” “Green Corn Moon,” or “Napida Moon.”
Adding to the uniqueness of the evening, this Strawberry Moon coincided with characteristics of a Supermoon when the moon is closest to the Earth in its orbit, appearing brighter and larger than usual.
