A tragic medical incident at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital has resulted in the deaths of two patients, while 17 others remain in critical condition after experiencing severe reactions to an anti-bacterial injection.
According to hospital officials, the victims included 26-year-old Daulat Khan, who was admitted for surgery and succumbed to complications caused by the injection. Earlier, a 31-year-old female patient had also lost her life after suffering a similar reaction.
Following these alarming incidents, Mayo Hospital authorities immediately halted the use of the suspected injection. In response, a high-level inquiry committee has been established to investigate the matter, while the Punjab Health Department has also launched an independent probe to determine the cause of the fatalities.
The situation has further intensified after Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s surprise visit to the hospital. Upon receiving multiple complaints from patients and their families about mismanagement, she took swift action by dismissing the hospital’s Medical Superintendent (MS). Expressing her strong dissatisfaction, she questioned the MS’s awareness and control over hospital affairs, stating, “You don’t even know what’s happening with the patients.”
This tragic event has raised serious concerns regarding the hospital’s administrative oversight and the safety of medical treatments provided to patients. Authorities are now working diligently to identify the exact cause of these adverse reactions and implement necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
