The Punjab government has issued new winter regulations for schools, warning strict school fines that fail to comply with the updated timing schedule. The move aims to protect students from harsh winter mornings while ensuring smoother traffic management and better energy use.
Schools in Punjab Ordered to Open After 8: 45 AM
All public and private schools across Punjab are required to start classes no earlier than 8:45 AM. Any school that opens before this time will face heavy school fines of up to Rs. 500,000. The new rule will be in force from November 3, 2025, to January 31, 2026, under the province’s official winter adjustment plan.
The Education Department confirmed that single-shift schools will now operate from 8:45 AM to 1:30 PM from Monday to Thursday. While on Fridays classes will end earlier at 12:30 PM. For double-shift schools, the morning shift will follow the same schedule. While the second shift will run from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM during weekdays and from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Fridays.
Officials emphasized that these measures were introduced keeping in mind the safety and health of children. Early mornings often bring fog, cold winds, and visibility issues, posing risks for students and parents traveling to schools.

The decision has been welcomed by many parents who have long requested. A delay in school opening hours during the winter months. However, the government has warned that strict monitoring will take place. And no institution will be exempt from fines if found violating the schedule.
These revised school timings reflect the Punjab government’s effort to balance education with public safety during the coldest part of the year.
