The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted a second monsoon rainfall spell across several parts of the country beginning from July 6. According to the latest weather advisory, moist currents from the Arabian Sea continue to affect upper regions, while currents from the Bay of Bengal are also expected to enter northeastern areas.
The Met Office said a westerly weather wave is likely to approach the upper parts of Pakistan within the next 12 hours. Seasonal low pressure also remains active over northwestern Balochistan, increasing the chances of widespread rain and thunderstorms.
Heavy rainfall expected in northern regions
Authorities expect scattered rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms in several areas of Kashmir from the night of July 6 until July 8. Some places may also receive isolated heavy rainfall.
The affected areas include Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Bagh, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur, and nearby districts.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, weather officials forecast rain and thunderstorms in Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Malakand, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, and several other districts.
The advisory also includes warnings for heavy rainfall in parts of Waziristan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan during July 7 and 8.
Punjab and Islamabad likely to receive rain
The second monsoon spell is also expected to affect Islamabad and several districts of Punjab. Rain, thunderstorms, and windstorms may hit Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Kasur, and nearby cities.
The Met Office also predicted rainfall in southern Punjab areas including Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, and Rajanpur during July 7 and 8.
Weather experts say heavy rainfall in urban areas could lead to water accumulation and traffic disruptions. Authorities may issue local advisories if conditions worsen.
Gilgit Baltistan and Balochistan remain under alert
Rain and thunderstorms will likely affect Gilgit Baltistan, including Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghizer, Diamir, and Astore.
In Balochistan, isolated rain and windstorms may affect Zhob, Sherani, Kohlu, Sibbi, Barkhan, Khuzdar, and nearby districts from the night of July 7.
Sindh to remain hot and humid
Most parts of Sindh will continue to experience hot and humid weather conditions. However, the Met Office predicts isolated rain and thunderstorms in areas including Tharparkar, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Jacobabad, and Shaheed Benazirabad during July 7 and 8.

The latest weather system arrives as several northern regions already face challenges linked to heavy rainfall and glacier melting. Officials have advised citizens to stay updated with weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions.
As the second monsoon spell approaches, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to reduce risks linked to flooding, urban waterlogging, and travel disruptions across affected areas.
