Karachi, September 4, 2016: Early this morning NJV School, a heritage site, came alive with activity as enthusiatic Karachiites came together to participate in Art Ki Talaash, a scavenger hunt with a difference, a project of Karachi Biennale Trust, the organisers of the First Karachi Biennale. It had been especially designed to help participants to connect with the history of Karachi. After complimentary tea and cupcakes by TCJ and Emaan’s cupcakes respectively, Art ki Talaash sent a large number of teams across Karachi in search of answers to art-related clues given to them in the morning. The teams went all through the city to sites that were as far-flung as the airport and the harbour, and from Gulshan to Clifton. Not only did Art Ki Talaash test how well the teams knew Karachi but also gave them a fun day with friends and family while exploring this wonderful city.
As the day wound down teams started poring in back to NJV with their final answers and a dash to be the first back so as to increase their chance to win the contest. The evening’s festivities marking the end of Art Ki Talaash were filled with prizes, music and merriment. As the results were being compiled, the participants were treated to an unplugged performance by Kristin Kanaria of Nescafe Basement fame. Music, good company and amazing edibles by the tea partners TCJ and Pie in the Sky set the mood for the evening after a long day of hunting for answers.
After welcome remarks by Niilofur Farrukh, managing trustee of Karachi Biennale Trust in which she highlighted Karachi Biennale’ s objectives, Mr Nazir Tunio director Akuwat Sindh spoke on the restoration project of NJV School which they have adopted. Mr Anwar Rammal, an alumnus of NJV from the 1940s shared his memories of his alma mater.
The chief guest for the evening was actor/singer Tipu Sharif who greatly appreciated Art Ki Talaash and gave out the top ten prizes to the teams with the most correct answers within the deadline. The first prize was a return ticket to Dubai courtesy airline partner Oman Air, second prize was Rs 25000/- donated by Agha’s Supermarket, and the third best team received a ladies leather bag from HUB plus 2 gift vouchers from FHS. The other prizes included Dinner for two at Chai Shai, a bag by HUB, five discount vouchers by Espresso, four free mani/pedi vouchers by Peng Salon, four vouchers by Angie’s Salon, and five vouchers by Pivot Point Pakistan.
With the Vote of Thanks by Ainie Shehzad, Trustee of Karachi Biennale, the evening ended on a high note with participants exhilarated by their day’s work. The exploration of the city certainly made people look at Karachi in a different light.
