Bollywood Actor and Director Manoj Kumar Passes Away at 87

Veteran Bollywood actor and director Manoj Kumar has passed away at the age of 87 in Mumbai, India’s financial capital.

The actor died due to “age-related health issues,” according to Dr. Santosh Shetty of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, where he was receiving treatment.

Manoj Kumar’s son, Kunal Goswami, confirmed that his father had been struggling with health problems for a long time.

Kumar leaves behind a lasting legacy in Indian cinema, particularly known for his patriotic films that gained popularity during the 1960s and 1970s. Born Harikrishan Goswami in 1937 in Punjab, he became a prominent figure in the Hindi film industry. Some of his most iconic films include Shaheed, Roti Kapada Aur Makaan, and Kranti. These films resonated deeply with the Indian public due to their strong patriotic themes.

Throughout his career, Manoj Kumar received several accolades, including the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honor, and the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor in Indian cinema.

As news of his passing spread, tributes flooded social media. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered him as an “icon of Indian cinema,” praising his work for igniting a spirit of national pride. Modi expressed that Kumar’s films will continue to inspire future generations.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit also shared his condolences, calling Kumar’s death a “great loss to the film industry.” He emphasized that the entire industry will deeply miss the actor-director’s contributions.
