Popular Pakistani period drama Aangan is officially returning to HUM TV after several years. The network has announced the re-release of the acclaimed drama in September 2026, bringing its memorable story and ensemble cast back to television screens.
Originally aired in 2018 and 2019, Aangan tells a family story set against the political and social changes of pre-Partition British India. The drama draws from Khadija Mastoor’s celebrated Urdu novel of the same name and explores how political differences affect relationships within a large joint family.
The upcoming re-run gives viewers another opportunity to watch the drama on television, while also introducing it to audiences who may have missed its original broadcast.
Aangan Cast and Characters
Aangan features an ensemble cast of some of Pakistan’s most recognised television actors. Sajal Aly plays Chammi, while Ahad Raza Mir appears as Jameel. Mawra Hocane plays Aaliya, who serves as the central character through whose perspective much of the story unfolds.
Ahsan Khan takes on a dual role as Subhan and Safdar. Sonya Hussyn plays Salma, while Hira Mani appears as Tehmina. The cast also includes Rabia Butt as Kusum, Omair Rana as Mazhar and Madiha Rizvi as Aaliya’s mother.
The late Abid Ali appears as Muzaffar Malik, while Zaib Rehman plays Malkin. The large ensemble helps bring the drama’s sprawling family setting to life.
The performances of the cast, particularly Sajal Aly, Ahad Raza Mir and Mawra Hocane, remain an important part of the drama’s identity. Their characters represent different perspectives within the family as the political environment around them continues to change.
Aangan Story and Background
Set during the 1940s, Aangan follows a family living through a period of major political and social change. The story focuses on Aaliya and the people around her while the growing independence movement creates divisions within the household.
Rather than focusing only on political events, the drama explores their effect on everyday family life. Different political beliefs create disagreements among relatives and influence friendships, relationships and romantic connections.
As the Partition of the Indian subcontinent approaches, the family faces increasingly difficult choices. Political loyalties begin to affect personal relationships, changing the dynamics of the household.
The drama was adapted from Khadija Mastoor’s award-winning novel. Mustafa Afridi wrote the television screenplay, while Mohammed Ehteshamuddin directed the series. Momina Duraid produced the drama under MD Productions.
Aangan Return Schedule and Timings
HUM TV has confirmed that Aangan is returning to television, but the network has currently listed the drama as Coming Soon. The new premiere date and weekly time slot have not yet been officially announced.

During its original run, Aangan aired on Thursday nights at 8 PM. However, that schedule belongs to the original broadcast and should not be treated as the timing for its 2026 return.
The upcoming re-run brings the period drama back to HUM TV with its original ensemble cast and story. With its pre-Partition setting, complex family relationships and strong performances, Aangan is set to introduce the acclaimed series to a new television audience while giving previous viewers another chance to revisit the drama.
