Punjab has taken a bold step toward modernizing its licensing system by introducing Pakistan’s first Artificial Intelligence powered driving test car. Developed on the special instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the vehicle has been designed by the Traffic Police to make driving tests more transparent, automated, and free from human influence.
How the AI Based Driving Test Car Works
According to DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir. The smart car is equipped with advanced cameras and sensors that automatically assess candidates’ performance during the test. Inside, it features a facial recognition camera and a biometric fingerprint scanner to verify the candidate’s identity.
Four external cameras record driving behavior throughout the test to ensure full transparency.
Once a candidate sits in the car, the system activates automatically. It provides clear instructions, starts a countdown timer, and checks for safety features like the handbrake and seatbelt.
The AI powered system can even automatically declare a failure. Such as when a candidate engages reverse gear more than once. Test results are updated instantly without requiring any manual input from staff, reducing the chance of errors or favoritism.

Authorities confirmed that the AI based driving test car will first be deployed in Lahore. A total of 200 such vehicles will be manufactured during the current fiscal year and delivered to licensing centers across Punjab. This initiative marks a major leap toward transparent and technology driven public services in Pakistan.
By automating the driving test process, the government aims to improve efficiency. Ensure fairness, and build public trust in the licensing system.
