4 Must Know Tips for Oily Skin

The excess oil on people’s face with oily skin is due to overproduction of sebum which is a natural oil that exists in our scalp and face. It helps keep your hair and face moisturized but due to overproduction some people’s skin becomes very oily. People with oily skin are usually prone to acne, pimples and black heads. Even some people with very oily skin get skin bumps on their face due to the exposure of dust and pollution. The solution to this problem is to keep the oil production at bay by following some easy tips and tricks that are mentioned below. Good luck!

1. Find a good moisturizer

A common misconception that people with oily skin have is that they should refrain from putting moisturizer on their face because it will make their face oilier. In reality, not moisturizing your face does more harm to your skin than good. It’s important to hydrate your face because when your face is dehydrated then your oil glands produce more oil because not using moisturizer sends a message to your oil glands that they need to work overtime.  Therefore you should invest in a good moisturizer so that it acts as a shield against dust and other impurities as well.

2. Cleanse

Always say yes to cleansing. If you have oily skin then chances are your pores are clogged too. Cleansing will help get dirt out of your pores and also get rid of excess oil on your face that leads to clogged pores. You can look for oil free cleansers but avoid using abrasive scrubs as they will strip your skin of its natural oil which will lead to more oil production.

3. Go easy on the powder

All of us are guilty of using pressed or loose powder to achieve that beautiful matte finished look. But according to WebMD using powder on your face will cause the sebaceous glands to produce more oil which is exactly what we don’t want. Therefore you should only use powder when and where necessary. For example you can strategically apply it on your T-zone as it’s the area which gets oily really quickly.

4. Avoid washing your face a lot

People with oily skin often get frustrated with it and take drastic measures to get rid of the oil on their face. But that’s not the way to do it. Washing your face a lot and that too with hot water to get it “extra clean” actually damages it. So you want to be gentle with your skin and use mild products for your skincare.
