Temperatures May Reach 50°C in Punjab During Eid Week

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave alert across Punjab ahead of the Eid holidays. According to the advisory, moderate to severe heatwave conditions may continue from May 25 to May 31.

Officials say a high-pressure system will likely develop over the region on May 25. Furthermore, weather conditions may intensify from May 26 onward, causing temperatures to rise significantly across many districts.

Several districts expected to record extreme temperatures

The PDMA has warned that temperatures in cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Jhelum, and Attock may remain 5°C to 7°C above normal levels.

As a result, daytime temperatures in these districts could range between 42°C and 45°C during the forecast period.

Meanwhile, southern and central districts may experience even harsher conditions. Areas such as Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Layyah, and Sargodha could see temperatures reaching between 47°C and 50°C.

In addition, authorities expect nighttime temperatures to remain unusually high throughout the week.

Public advised to take precautionary measures

The PDMA has advised residents to avoid direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, especially between 10am and 4pm.

Children, senior citizens, and women have been identified as the most vulnerable groups during the heatwave. Therefore, officials are encouraging people to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities whenever possible.

Farmers have also received guidance regarding crop management and livestock protection during the extreme weather conditions.
