The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a major weather alert for several regions of the country as a strong rain system approaches Pakistan from June 16. Officials expect the weather spell to continue until June 20 in many areas.
According to the PMD, a westerly wave will enter the upper parts of the country while moist currents from the Arabian Sea will move toward central and northern regions. These systems will bring rain, thunderstorms, dust storms, and isolated hailstorms.
Punjab and Islamabad likely to receive heavy rain
Punjab and Islamabad may experience scattered rain and thunderstorms during the coming days. Some areas could also receive heavy rainfall and hailstorms.
Cities under alert include Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, and Murree.
Officials warned that heavy rain may cause urban flooding in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and Sialkot.
Strong winds and lightning could also damage weak structures such as electric poles, solar panels, and billboards.
KP Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan face storm risks
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will likely receive rain and thunderstorms in several districts including Swat, Chitral, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Kohat, Mansehra, and Bannu.
Some areas may also face hailstorms and strong wind activity.
In Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, rain is expected from June 16 to June 22 with occasional gaps. Areas including Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Hunza, Skardu, Gilgit, and Astore may receive heavy showers.
The PMD warned that landslides may occur in vulnerable hilly regions due to continuous rainfall.
Sindh and Balochistan also under weather alert
Upper Sindh may witness dust storms and thunderstorms between June 16 and June 20. Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, and Dadu remain among the affected districts.
Karachi may also receive light rain along with dust storms during the forecast period.

In Balochistan, areas such as Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Khuzdar, and Sibbi may experience rain and thunderstorms over the next few days.
PMD advises citizens to stay careful
The weather department advised farmers to manage crops carefully according to changing weather conditions.
Officials also urged tourists and travelers to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain and storm activity, especially in mountainous and flood prone areas.
