At Least 14 Children Die in Lahore Tuition Center Roof Collapse

A heartbreaking tragedy in Lahore’s Kahna area has left the entire country grieving after a roof collapse at a private tuition center claimed the lives of several children. The devastating incident occurred during class hours when students were present inside the building.

According to initial reports, the tuition center operated inside an old and under construction residential building. Around 30 to 35 children, mostly between the ages of 5 and 13, attended classes at the time of the collapse.

Roof collapses during construction work

Authorities said construction workers carried out repair work on the roof while classes continued inside the building. Workers reportedly placed mud and heavy construction material on the T iron roof structure to strengthen it.

However, the weakened structure failed under the excessive weight and suddenly collapsed, trapping children and teachers beneath the rubble.

Rescue teams, local residents, and Rescue 1122 officials immediately rushed to the site and began emergency operations to pull trapped students from the debris.

Children among those who lost their lives

The tragic collapse resulted in the deaths of at least 14 children, while several others suffered injuries. Reports also confirmed that a teacher lost her life in the incident.

Rescue officials shifted the injured children to nearby medical facilities, including THQ Hospital Kahna and Lahore General Hospital, where doctors continued emergency treatment.

The tragedy deeply affected many families in the area. Reports stated that some households lost more than one child in the collapse, increasing the emotional impact of the incident across the community.

Following the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow and ordered immediate investigations into the matter.

Officials directed authorities to provide urgent medical assistance and support to the affected families. The government also called for a review of unsafe and illegally operated buildings being used for commercial purposes.
