The Karachi administration has announced plans to launch a dedicated mobile application for fire safety monitoring across the city. The initiative aims to improve emergency response coordination for commercial buildings, shopping malls, and major public facilities.
Officials made the decision during a high-level meeting chaired by Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi. The meeting reviewed progress on Karachi’s ongoing fire safety audit campaign.
New digital system for emergency response
Authorities say the upcoming app will centralize fire safety information from different departments involved in disaster management and emergency services.
As a result, rescue teams will gain faster access to important building data during emergencies. The platform will provide real-time details about fire exits, prevention systems, emergency facilities, and disaster response arrangements.
Officials believe this digital integration will improve coordination between emergency departments and help speed up rescue operations during fires or other incidents.
Fire safety inspections continue across Karachi
The administration has already started large-scale inspections of commercial buildings and public venues across the city.
Sub-Divisional Fire Safety Audit Committees are conducting these inspections under the supervision of assistant commissioners. Authorities formed these committees following directives from Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah.
According to officials, teams have surveyed more than 800 buildings so far. Moreover, authorities have issued notices to buildings that failed to meet required fire safety standards.
Building owners have received instructions to address safety gaps immediately.
Fire Safety Audit Portal already active
Officials also confirmed that survey data from inspected buildings has already been uploaded to the Fire Safety Audit Portal.
The portal currently includes details related to fire prevention systems and disaster response arrangements. Furthermore, authorities plan to add more data to strengthen emergency preparedness across Karachi.

Commissioner Hassan Naqvi directed all departments to accelerate the audit process. He also stressed the importance of prioritizing high-risk buildings.
Multiple agencies to support the campaign
Several departments will support the citywide fire safety initiative. These include the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Rescue 1122, Civil Defense, and the Sindh Building Control Authority.
Meanwhile, Civil Defense teams will identify buildings that still lack proper safety arrangements.
Officials say the project reflects Karachi’s broader efforts to modernize emergency preparedness and improve public safety infrastructure across the city.
