In a dramatic escalation of regional tensions, India conducted missile strikes on three locations inside Pakistan late Tuesday night, according to a statement by Pakistan’s military.
Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), confirmed during an appearance on a private television channel that Indian aircraft launched missiles from within Indian airspace, targeting the cities of Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad.
“The Indian aircraft from their airspace have hit cities of Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad,” said the DG ISPR.
He emphasized that the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) remained on high alert and that its airborne fighter jets successfully prevented Indian aircraft from violating Pakistani airspace.
While confirming the strike, the military spokesman noted that a full assessment of casualties and material damage is underway. “The situation of casualties and losses is being assessed,” he said.
Pakistan has vowed to respond to the attacks. “Pakistan will respond at a suitable time and place,” the ISPR chief stated, without elaborating on the nature or timing of the retaliation.
This development marks a significant increase in hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbors and has raised concerns over the potential for further military escalation.
No official statement has yet been released by Indian authorities at the time of this report.
