Hosts Russia could not have wished for a better start to their own FIFA World Cup™ following their resounding 5-0 victory over Saudi Arabia. Denis Cheryshev scored the goal of the night as hosts Russia got off to a flying start in their FIFA World Cup opener against Saudi Arabia.

With this win host Russia records their biggest win in the opening game of a World Cup since 1934.
