Much impressed by his exquisite collection, we had a word with the ultimately talented accessories designer Felix Bendish on his latest showcase at Lotus Make Up India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 21. Here is what he had to say about his collection titled ”Water” for SS 21.
Tell us about the collection ‘Water’ for ss 21
My inspiration is taken from the calmness and magnificence of the oceans. Existing since pre-historic times, ever-changing, vast and strong enough not to be destroyed completely – even by Man’s follies.
With its dancing waves, its waters moving with the rhythm of beautiful aquatic creatures, sea horses, sea urchins, vibrant corals , lobsters and shells , this collection is all about FORGIVENESS AND RESURGENCE…..like the ebb and flow of tides….Oceans.
Our signature style is hand embroidered, quirky Accessories brilliantly playing with lots of textures, prints, neon, pop colours and crystals. It’s now time to surge forward and have fun doing so with a bit of whimsy and lots of vibrant colors. The embellished accessories include neckpieces, brooches, earrings, hairbands and belts.
Can you tell us how you translated what you saw around you to effective communication through the medium of fashion?
During the lockdown, things were bad and everything seemed impossibly difficult . To snap myself out of it ,I started sketching . Nothing is more personally satisfying than to let lines and colours guide me. I think that was a good relief for me.
Why are accessories like bands, earrings, necklaces, clutches, brooches so important for an outfit?
My accessories dominate once worn .It could be worn with a simple outfit . just one fashion accessory element can make a huge fashion statement. In this on going pandemic, People are acutely aware of their budgets. Price range would definitely be Key.
Travel for a long time is not possible for most. That’s where collection like mine ,brings to the buyer a feeling of relief.
A lot can be achieved in fashion by just playing with some fabulous accessories without spending on heavy clothing line.
