ECC Approves Funds for Independence Day and Marqa e Haq Celebrations

The Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet has approved a series of financial measures covering education, energy, industry, and public administration. The meeting focused on development funding, operational support, and national event preparations.

The session was chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb at the Finance Division. Officials reviewed multiple proposals and cleared technical supplementary grants worth around Rs. 3.01 billion for various projects.

Funds approved for national celebrations and cultural projects

The committee sanctioned Rs. 59.624 million for Independence Day and Marqa e Haq 2025 celebrations. The National Heritage and Culture Division proposed the allocation to support official events and commemorative activities at the national level.

Authorities said the funding will help organize cultural programs and improve coordination for upcoming national observances.

Development and education projects receive approval

The ECC approved Rs. 100 million for the construction of the Faiz Ahmad Faiz Complex in Narowal. The project aims to support cultural and educational infrastructure in the region.

It also cleared Rs. 350 million for Danish School Kuri in Islamabad. The funding will support operational needs and ensure smooth academic activities after classes begin.

In another decision, the committee approved a Rs. 2.5 billion grant for the Directorate General Immigration and Passports. The allocation will cover operational expenses, salaries, and material costs for the fiscal year 2025 to 2026.

Energy and industrial sector reforms

The ECC endorsed measures to revive the National Steel Complex Limited. It allowed gas supply for industrial operations and captive power generation based on available tariffs. Officials also directed the creation of a uniform policy framework for similar cases in the future.

In the power sector, the committee approved the uniform application of Use of System Charges across all distribution companies, including K Electric. The move falls under the Competitive Trading Bilateral Contract Market framework and aims to ensure equal market conditions.

Government stresses fiscal discipline

The meeting included federal ministers and senior officials from relevant ministries and regulatory bodies. Participants discussed policy execution and financial discipline across approved projects.

The ECC emphasized timely implementation of decisions and strict compliance with approved frameworks. Officials said the measures are designed to improve governance, strengthen infrastructure, and support ongoing development initiatives.
