A lot of buzz has been generated by the announcement of the launch of Pakistan’s first Urdu OTT platform “UrduFlix. People interested in watching Urdu-content have been eager to find more about the upcoming OTT platform. So, here is what we know about this momentous new project of Emax Media.

Pakistan’s First OTT Platform ”URDUFLIX”

So, the good news is that UrduFlix will give its users access to original Urdu films, dramas, web series, cartoons and the widely popular dubbed Turkish drama. It will be bringing new-age Urdu content to your laptops, ipads, and mobile screens. Plus, you will also be able to see previously released hit dramas and films on UrduFlix. Content from top-of-the-line stars Mahira Khan, Hira Mani, and Ishq e Mamnoon star Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ, will be available on UrduFlix.

Currently, foreign streaming networks have fairly limited Urdu content. Especially the original content being created doesn’t cater to the Pakistani masses. Even the films and dramas, that are being produced, are often made with a foreign gaze. This can result in bland and stereotypical storylines. At times, there is a legitimate complaint by many that these shows and films butcher the Urdu language.

The launch of UrduFlix is hence significant as it gives local artists a chance to showcase their skills. There is certainly a vacuum as Pakistan’s internet penetration grows year on year, the demand for local content which they can relate to will also grow. UrduFlix is an attempt to fill that gap. Who wouldn’t want to watch a full series with Mahira Khan as the lead? While Hira Mani has been ruling the TV screens, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched an idea to see her perform stellar roles for UrduFlix’s original series, maybe? Who knows – we are excited to find out!
