Babusar Top Highway Closed as Snow and Glaciers Block Route

Authorities have closed the Babusar Top road for all types of traffic until June 6 due to ongoing snow clearance operations and difficult weather conditions. The key route, which connects Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Gilgit-Baltistan, remains blocked as teams continue removing snow, glaciers, and debris.

An official travel advisory confirmed that heavy snowfall and unstable weather have slowed down restoration work in the area. Several sections of the road are still covered with thick snow and glacier deposits, making travel unsafe at the moment.

Snow clearance operation underway

The National Highway Authority along with local administration teams are actively working to clear the route and restore safe travel conditions. Officials said the operation requires time because of the volume of snow and the difficult terrain along Babusar Top.

Earlier, the road had been partially opened on a one way basis to allow limited movement of vehicles towards Gilgit-Baltistan. However, authorities have now suspended all traffic completely until the clearance work is fully completed.

Teams are focusing on removing snow and debris from multiple critical points along the highway. The goal is to ensure safe passage before reopening the road to the public.

Weather conditions slowing progress

Officials explained that ongoing snowfall and unpredictable weather have made the clearance work more challenging. The presence of heavy snow layers and glacier buildup has increased the time needed to restore the route.

Authorities have advised travelers to avoid planning trips via Babusar Top until the road is officially reopened. Updates will be shared once conditions improve and the route is declared safe for traffic.

Travel advisory issued for commuters

The closure has affected travelers moving between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, especially during the peak travel season. Authorities are monitoring weather conditions closely and working to reopen the route as soon as possible.

Officials have urged the public to follow travel advisories and avoid unnecessary travel in the affected region. Safety remains the top priority as clearing operations continue.

Babusar Top remains one of the most important and scenic routes in northern Pakistan, but it often faces seasonal closures due to snowfall and harsh weather conditions.
