WhatsApp is testing a new feature that could change how users handle missed calls on the platform. The feature introduces a voicemail-style option, allowing users to leave an instant audio message if their call goes unanswered.
WhatsApp Testing Voicemail Option for Missed Calls
According to WABetaInfo, the feature has been spotted in WhatsApp’s latest Android beta version 2.25.23.21. With this update, users making a WhatsApp voice call that isn’t picked up will see a new “Record voice message” button. Alongside the familiar “Call again” and “Cancel” options.
This addition streamlines the process of leaving messages. While users could already send voice notes via the mic icon in chats, the new voicemail option eliminates extra steps by letting them record and send an audio message directly from the call screen.
The feature also integrates seamlessly into the chat window of the recipient who missed the call. Making it easier for the message to be seen and heard. This will be especially useful in situations where urgent communication is needed but the other person is unavailable to answer.

At present, the voicemail-style feature is only accessible to selected beta testers on Android devices. WhatsApp has not yet confirmed when the update will be rolled out widely to all users, or whether iOS users will see the feature soon.
If launched globally. The new voicemail option will bring WhatsApp closer to traditional phone call systems while retaining the flexibility of instant messaging.
