Dubai has launched a strict enforcement drive targeting unsafe parking and other violations by truck drivers. The initiative comes as authorities try to improve road safety, protect infrastructure, and maintain the smooth flow of traffic throughout the city. The campaign, led by the Roads and Transport Authority, focuses on the growing issue of trucks parking randomly on key highways and under bridges.
The city continues to expand at a rapid pace. Because of this growth, Dubai authorities are taking additional steps to ensure that roads remain safe and organised. The new campaign sends a direct message to transport companies and truck drivers as the fines for repeated or severe violations can now reach AED 200000.
RTA expands inspections as truck violations increase
Arif Shakri, Director of Right of Way at the Traffic and Roads Agency, said the inspection teams are monitoring roads to identify behaviours that threaten safety. He explained that the goal is to regulate activities within the right of way and stop unauthorised practices. His team is conducting scheduled and surprise inspections in areas where violations frequently take place. This includes highways, industrial zones, and busy commercial corridors.
The RTA has repeatedly highlighted the risks linked to random truck parking. When large vehicles stop on the hard shoulder or beneath bridges, they restrict visibility and create sudden obstacles for other road users. These behaviours can lead to avoidable accidents, especially during peak travel hours. They also damage infrastructure, because trucks put heavy pressure on areas not designed to support their weight.
Moreover, irregular parking slows down emergency responses. It also disrupts the movement of vehicles that rely on clear roads for deliveries, services, and logistics. Dubai continues to position itself as a global transport hub, so these violations can have a much bigger effect than just a traffic inconvenience.
To reduce the problem, authorities have strengthened enforcement. They are now issuing fines that begin at AED 5000. However, if truck companies repeatedly break the rules, the penalty can rise to AED 200000 as outlined in Executive Council Resolution No 54 of 2021. Officials say the highest penalties target the most serious cases, including violations that directly endanger the public.
Alongside enforcement, the RTA is expanding facilities for truckers. Fourteen dedicated rest stops are now available across the emirate. These sites offer fuel stations, restaurants, prayer rooms, retail shops, and maintenance workshops. The locations are positioned along main highways so truck drivers have safe places to park during restricted movement hours. These areas also support long journeys by giving drivers a proper place to rest.

Transport companies are being encouraged to use these facilities and brief their drivers on parking rules. Because Dubai’s road network is one of the busiest in the region, proper coordination is essential. The RTA believes that improved habits will reduce accidents and protect the city’s road network for years to come.
Dubai continues to issue clear instructions to drivers. The message is simple. Unsafe parking is no longer tolerated. The combination of new rest stops, strict monitoring and higher fines aims to create safer roads for everyone. Truck drivers and companies now need to comply, as further violations can lead to penalties as high as AED 200000.
