Next Gen Toyota Hilux Breaks Cover with Electric Diesel and Petrol Power

Toyota has officially revealed the all new ninth generation Hilux, bringing a massive upgrade to one of the world’s most iconic pickup trucks. The latest Hilux now includes an electric variant for the first time ever, making it Toyota’s first body on frame EV while still offering petrol and diesel engines for global markets.

The company confirmed that production of the Hilux EV will begin worldwide by the end of 2025. Meanwhile, the petrol and diesel versions are expected to reach showrooms by mid 2026, giving consumers multiple powertrain choices based on their driving needs.

The electric Hilux is built on Toyota’s trusted IMV platform. It comes with a 59.2 kWh battery and a dual motor all wheel drive setup that generates 205 Nm of torque at the front axle and 268.6 Nm at the rear. With this configuration, the Hilux EV offers a driving range of around 240 kilometres on a single charge. It also supports a payload of 715 kilograms and can tow up to 1,600 kilograms, making it a practical option for both commercial and personal use. Toyota has yet to reveal details about charging speeds or how range may vary under heavy load.

The new generation also retains the popular 2.8 litre turbo diesel engine, known globally for durability and performance. This engine now comes with a 48V mild hybrid system to boost efficiency. A 2.7 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine will also be available. These internal combustion engine models offer a payload capacity of 1,000 kilograms and an impressive towing capability of 3,500 kilograms, which keeps the Hilux competitive in the global pickup segment.

The exterior design has received a modern makeover while staying true to its rugged identity. Slim LED headlights, a piano black grille, and a sharper silhouette give the Hilux a fresh and powerful look. The EV version has a closed honeycomb bumper, whereas the petrol and diesel variants feature an open mesh design. Toyota has also introduced redesigned 18 inch alloy wheels and updated rear tail lamps that add a contemporary touch.

Inside the cabin, Toyota has made significant upgrades to comfort and technology. The all new Hilux features two 12.3 inch digital displays, one for the instrument cluster and the other for infotainment. Additional features include a 360 degree camera, safe exit assist, powered ventilated seats, wireless charging, and driver monitoring technology. The redesigned interior aims to provide premium comfort while addressing the outdated feel of previous models.

With the introduction of an electric version and major improvements across the lineup, Toyota has positioned the ninth generation Hilux as a strong contender in the global pickup market. Fans and industry experts are calling it one of the most important upgrades in the Hilux’s history, setting the stage for a new era of performance and capability.
