Sindh Education Department Extends School Holidays Until August 14th

According to the official notification, “The summer vacation[s] are hereby extended in all public and private institutions under the administrative control of the School Education & Literacy Department till 14.08.2024 in the wake of the heat-wave and expected monsoon rains.” This extension aims to mitigate the risks associated with extreme weather conditions and to prioritize the health and safety of the community.

Impact on School Activities

While academic activities are on hold, the notification clarified that extra-curricular activities related to Independence Day celebrations will still be conducted as planned. These activities are expected to proceed in “letter and spirit,” ensuring that the significance of the national holiday is duly observed.

Weather Predictions

The original summer break was scheduled from June 1 to July 31. However, weather predictions by the MET office have indicated that another monsoon spell is expected to affect parts of Sindh between Wednesday and Sunday (July 24-28). The development of a weather system in the Bay of Bengal, which may impact Gujarat, India’s coastal state, is also being closely monitored.
