Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins struggles to make an impact. Co-directors Robbie Grewal and Kookie Gulati fail to deliver anything beyond a generic, lackluster heist movie. Saif Ali Khan plays Rehan, a charming thief hired by Rajan Aulakh (Jaideep Ahlawat), an art collector with a criminal agenda.
Their task is to steal Red Sun, a diamond as valuable as the Kohinoor. The film unnecessarily draws comparisons to the iconic Jewel Thief, but it does not live up to the legacy.
Saif and Jaideep look sharp in their roles. Their performances show their flair for the characters, but they fail to add depth to a weak script. Nikita Dutta shines with elegance, but even her presence cannot overcome the uninspired writing and music. The dialogues feel forced, with profanity added to try to create impact, but it falls flat.
The heist itself offers no surprises. The familiar tropes of infrared security, password cracking, and a blackmail subplot don’t do much to elevate the story. The villain, in this case, seems to be a step behind throughout, which further diminishes any potential excitement. Kunal Kapoor’s character feels like an afterthought, failing to contribute to the plot’s momentum.
In a movie that should be slick and suspenseful, the filmmakers don’t deliver. Instead, it feels like a standard heist film pieced together from various sources. There is no real stealth or cleverness in the execution, and it ultimately feels hollow.
Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins offers no fresh twists or thrills. The movie is more style over substance, with little effort to conceal its lack of depth. Despite talented actors, the film feels like a missed opportunity to turn a simple heist story into something memorable.
