A recent incident in Karachi has caused a wave of outrage on social media. A customer was denied entry to a restaurant for wearing Pakistan’s national dress, leading to a legal complaint.
According to reports, Abdul Latif, a practicing lawyer, visited a private restaurant in an upscale area of Karachi on May 18. He was wearing shalwar kameez, Pakistan’s national attire. Latif claims that a waiter informed him the restaurant could not serve him due to a dress code.
Restaurant Denies Entry for National Dress and Faces Complaint
Latif said the situation became even more upsetting when the restaurant manager allegedly called his outfit “cheap dressing” and warned him not to create a scene. Feeling insulted and discriminated against, he sent a legal notice to the restaurant. However, he says the management failed to respond.
Now, the matter has reached the Consumer Court. Latif is seeking legal action against the restaurant for its behavior and is calling for fair treatment for all customers, regardless of their clothing choices.
This incident has sparked strong reactions across social media platforms. Many users expressed shock that a local establishment would reject someone for wearing the national dress. Others raised questions about businesses enforcing dress codes that go against cultural and national values.
So far, the restaurant has not released any public statement regarding the allegations.
As the case moves forward, it highlights an important conversation about respect, inclusion, and the role of personal appearance in public spaces. For many, this is not just about one customer, it’s about whether national identity is being sidelined by modern dress standards.
