The Pakistan Cricket Board is planning to build a new cricket stadium in Saudi Arabia as part of its strategy to expand the Pakistan Super League beyond traditional venues. The proposed stadium in Jeddah could host PSL matches in the future if the plan moves forward.
Reports indicate that the PCB has received initial approval from its governing board to explore the project. However, officials still need to complete further discussions and secure final agreements before construction begins.
Plan aims to expand PSL reach
The proposed project reflects PCB efforts to take cricket to new markets. Saudi Arabia has shown growing interest in the sport in recent years, making it a potential location for international matches and league games.
The board has reportedly approved an expression of interest to collaborate with the Saudi Arabia Cricket Federation. This partnership would focus on developing a modern cricket stadium in Jeddah.
Officials discussed the proposal during a recent board meeting in Lahore. If both sides finalize the agreement, the venue could become an additional host location for PSL matches in the future.
The UAE has previously hosted PSL games successfully when matches could not take place in Pakistan. A venue in Saudi Arabia would provide another option in the region and support the league’s expansion plans.
Talks with Saudi authorities and next steps
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi visited Saudi Arabia in December 2024 to discuss cooperation in cricket development. During his visit, he met Prince Saud bin Mishal Al Saud and explored possibilities for building a cricket venue in the Kingdom.
Both sides also discussed ways to promote cricket and increase its popularity in Saudi Arabia. The establishment of the Saudi Arabia Cricket Federation in 2020 has already helped create a more organized structure for the sport.
The proposed stadium project remains in its early stages. Officials still need to finalize approvals, investment plans, and construction details before moving ahead.

If completed, the stadium could strengthen ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in sports development. It may also open new opportunities for hosting international matches and league events.
For now, the PCB continues to evaluate the proposal while engaging with stakeholders. The coming months will determine whether the plan progresses into a full scale project aimed at expanding the reach of the Pakistan Super League.
