Pakistan Votes Telenor Pakistan CEO Irfan Wahab Khan as One of Country’s Heroes

ISLAMABAD – August 15, 2017: Telenor Pakistan’s CEO, Irfan Wahab Khan, has been chosen as one of the country’s 70 heroes for his and the company’s achievements and services to the nation. The comprehensive nationwide #70Years70Heroes campaign was conducted by Jang Media Group, where public was asked to vote for their favorite personalities in genres of Politics, Sports, Education, Science & Technology, Business, Media, Military, Arts & Literature, Social Welfare and more.

The #70Years70Heroes campaign received an overwhelming response with scores of people voting for their favorite heroes in all categories. In Business category, Irfan Wahab Khan was voted as one of the seven winners, with him being the only one from Pakistan’s telecom sector. All of the nominees and winners of the campaign are those who have contributed immensely to the progress and development of our beloved nation and have inspired us towards progress and prosperity.

Irfan’s Achievements at Telenor Pakistan

Over the last ten years, under his dynamic leadership, Telenor Pakistan reached more than 40 million subscribers, gained revenue market share, and launched largest 3G and 4G footprint along with a number of innovative products and services. Taking forward Telenor Pakistan’s mission of empowering Pakistan, he enabled breakthrough digital services including Internet of Things (IoT), mobile agriculture services (mAgri), startup accelerator Velocity, and partnerships with the likes of Facebook, Google, Netflix etc. To help galvanize a new digital generation in Pakistan; he brainchild iChamp a knowledge-based initiative, providing learning and training to young people to become future proponents in the Digital Age.

Irfan is a digital evangelist, passionate about empowering Pakistan through Digital and Financial Inclusion, strong believer in the potential of our youth. He is also a great proponent of Diversity and Inclusion in work force and actively champions female participation at senior management and Board level. He is a thought leader when it comes to high standards of ethics and corporate Governance in Pakistan. He is also a Board Member for Telenor Pakistan, Telenor Microfinance Bank, The Indus Entrepreneurship (Islamabad chapter) and a Director at Founders Institute Islamabad. Irfan is also a member of Management Committee of Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where he is heading Taxation sub-committee.
