The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched Pakistan’s first-ever online marriage registration system, allowing citizens to digitally register their Nikah (marriage) through the Pak-ID mobile app.
This marks a significant step toward e-governance and digital public services, making marriage registration more convenient, transparent, and efficient across Pakistan.
How the Online Nikah Service Works
According to NADRA, citizens can now register their Nikah in their respective Union Council (UC) digitally via the Pak-ID mobile app. Once completed, the marriage registration certificate can be downloaded directly into the app’s ID Wallet, eliminating the need for physical paperwork or in-person visits.
Initially, the service has been launched in three districts of Punjab:
- Chakwal (71 UCs)
- Jhelum (44 UCs)
- Nankana Sahib (65 UCs)
This pilot rollout aims to test the system before it is expanded nationwide. NADRA confirmed that under a phased plan, the facility will be introduced across the entire country soon.
A Major Step Toward Digital Pakistan
The digital Nikah registration initiative aligns with Pakistan’s ongoing push toward smart governance and citizen facilitation through technology. By reducing paperwork and visits to government offices, NADRA aims to make essential services more accessible and efficient.
Earlier, NADRA had introduced another major reform. Offering the first Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) for free within 15 days to all new applicants aged 18 and above.
The authority has urged all eligible citizens to visit any nearby NADRA Centre, complete the process. And receive their free CNIC without a chip within two weeks.

NADRA stated that its digital initiatives are part of a broader plan to modernize civic services. Including marriage, birth, and death registrations, which will eventually be linked to Pakistan’s national digital ecosystem.
By integrating services like online CNICs, digital marriage certificates, and secure e-verification. NADRA continues to position itself at the forefront of Pakistan’s digital transformation journey.
