The people of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday expressed their heartfelt thanks to Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan for his remarks in support of Kashmir cause during his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, Washington-based World Kashmir Awareness Forum Secretary General Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai said.
Dr Fai said Erdogan’s words on Tuesday on the 76th session of the UN General Assembly have become a source of inspiration and gave hope to the millions of hopeless people in the region.
He said the significance of the message of President Erdogan was aimed at promotion of a dialogue as the only means of achieving a genuine and lasting peace in this volatile conflict.
The people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) were demanding and also deserving peace as they have suffered long and needlessly because of this brutal conflict.
Dr Fai said President Erdogan articulated his consistent policy towards Kashmir by repeating, “We maintain our stance in favour of solving the ongoing problem in Kashmir for 74 years, through dialogue between the parties and within the framework of relevant United Nations resolutions.”
These words have given the people of Kashmir encouragement, he added.
The people of Kashmir also share the assessment of President Erdogan that “Our General Assembly needs to be strengthened so that the international community can contribute more effectively to the solution to global issues.” It was important because the stakes were higher today than in the past. Dr Fai said even a small conflict could threaten to take on deadly proportions when weapons fall into the hands of irresponsible persons – both state and non-state actors, let us hope it was not going to happen.
