Karachi Implements New Speed Limits and Advanced Traffic Monitoring System

The Karachi Traffic Police has introduced new speed limits across all major city roads, marking a major step toward safer and more regulated traffic movement. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah confirmed that the limits have been finalized and will be enforced through modern monitoring systems.

New Speed Rules and Smart Tracking Systems

According to the new traffic plan, motorcycles and light transport vehicles (LTVs) are allowed a maximum speed of 60 km/h. While heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) must adhere to a stricter 30 km/h limit. These Speed Limits Karachi are designed to reduce accidents, improve road discipline, and create safer travel conditions for both drivers and pedestrians.

DIG Shah stated that speed-monitoring cameras are being installed across Karachi to record and track vehicle speeds in real time. In addition, around 10,000 heavy vehicles are being fitted with trackers linked to the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS). This system allows authorities to monitor violations, issue e-challans, and maintain accurate traffic data across districts.

The TRACS system is now active in nearly 40% of Karachi, with 1,717 cameras already integrated. It is fully functional in District South, where major roads such as Shahrah-e-Faisal are connected. E-challans are currently being issued in Malir, Korangi, East, Keamari, and Central. For overspeeding, signal violations, wrong-way driving, and other offenses.

The initiative represents a major leap forward in Karachi’s road safety and urban planning. Aiming to reduce accidents through technology-driven monitoring and strict enforcement.
