Karachi may finally experience its first winter rain as the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts a change in weather conditions toward the end of December. According to officials, a fresh system of westerly winds is expected to enter the country from December 28, bringing rain and colder temperatures to several regions.
Meteorologists say a western weather system could affect large parts of Pakistan between Tuesday and Wednesday. As a result, Karachi has a chance of receiving light to moderate rainfall on December 30. If the rain occurs, it will likely increase the chill in the air and mark the official arrival of winter rain in the city.
Over the past 24 hours, Karachi recorded a minimum temperature of 11°C. However, weather experts expect nighttime temperatures to feel colder in the coming days. During daytime, conditions may remain dry and partly sunny, but evenings and early mornings are expected to be noticeably cooler.
Humidity levels currently stand at around 66 percent, while light northeast winds continue to blow across the city. The Meteorological Department predicts that maximum temperatures will range between 26°C and 28°C, keeping days relatively mild despite the winter season.
Cold Wave Continues in Upper Regions
While Karachi prepares for possible rain, a severe cold wave continues to grip the upper and northern areas of the country. Extremely low temperatures have been recorded in several regions. Astore remains the coldest area with temperatures dropping to minus 14°C. Skardu has recorded minus 7°C, while Gilgit and Chitral experienced minus 4°C.
Quetta also remains under cold conditions, with temperatures falling to minus 3°C. Meanwhile, Islamabad and Lahore recorded minimum temperatures of 7°C, and Peshawar saw temperatures around 8°C.
