Tensions at sea escalated on Thursday when Israeli naval forces intercepted Oxygono, a Global Sumud Flotilla boat carrying aid bound for Gaza. Live footage from the flotilla showed Israeli personnel boarding the vessel, marking a new confrontation over Israel’s longstanding naval blockade of the Palestinian enclave.
Global Sumud Flotilla Faces Interception at Sea
According to flotilla organizers, Israeli forces have stopped 13 boats carrying foreign activists and humanitarian supplies. Despite the interceptions, around 30 boats continue their journey toward Gaza. In total, the Global Sumud Flotilla is made up of more than 40 civilian vessels. Carrying medicine and food for civilians in the war-hit territory. Onboard are nearly 500 parliamentarians, lawyers, and activists from different countries, making this one of the most high-profile international protests against the blockade.
In another dramatic scene, cameras installed on the Maria Cristina boat showed a vessel believed to belong to the Israeli Navy spraying a jet of unidentified substance at the flotilla. Activists described the act as dangerous intimidation, while organizers stressed their mission remained peaceful and strictly humanitarian.

The flotilla has been described as a powerful symbol of resistance against restrictions on Gaza. Which has faced years of blockade. Organizers argue that the aid mission aims to deliver life-saving supplies. While Israel maintains that naval control is necessary for its security.
The interception of Oxygono and other boats has already drawn global attention. Rights groups and international observers are calling for protection of humanitarian missions and safe passage for aid to reach Gaza. For activists aboard, the risk of confrontation was expected. Yet their determination to challenge the blockade underscores the growing international spotlight on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
