Islamabad authorities have launched an emergency drainage and dewatering operation after heavy rainfall caused waterlogging across several parts of the capital. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and district administration moved teams into affected areas to clear accumulated rainwater.
The operation began on Tuesday as heavy rain created difficulties for residents and motorists. Officials focused on low lying areas and locations where water accumulation posed a greater risk.
Sector E 11 and Ghouri Town remained among the key areas receiving immediate attention. Authorities also monitored other vulnerable parts of the city as rainfall continued.
Emergency Teams Deployed Across Key Areas
The CDA and district administration deployed special teams along with dewatering machinery to deal with the situation. Crews worked at underpasses, interchanges, major roads and other locations affected by waterlogging.
Officials also started clearing drains and waterways to improve the movement of rainwater. The emergency response aims to prevent further accumulation and reduce disruption on major roads.
CDA Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner Sohail Ashraf visited E 11, Ghouri Town and other affected areas. Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon also joined the inspection.
During the visit, Ashraf reviewed drainage arrangements, traffic management and other emergency measures. He directed officials to use all available resources to address water accumulation without delay.
He also instructed teams to maintain constant monitoring of sensitive locations. Officials must remain prepared to respond quickly if more rainfall creates fresh drainage problems.
Joint teams from the CDA, Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad, Emergency and Disaster Management and the district administration continued operations in the field.
The administration has also urged residents to take precautions during periods of heavy rain. Officials advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from low lying and waterlogged areas.

The warning is particularly important for motorists who may face difficult road conditions or reduced visibility during heavy rainfall.
Residents can report emergencies and drainage related complaints through the official helplines. The administration has provided 1334 and 16 for residents who need assistance.
