US health authorities are monitoring residents in several states after a deadly hantavirus outbreak linked to an international cruise ship raised concerns ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The outbreak involves the Andes strain of hantavirus, a rare form of the virus that health experts have previously linked to limited person to person transmission. Officials continue to investigate the situation after multiple confirmed and suspected cases emerged following travel on the MV Hondius cruise ship.
Cruise ship outbreak triggers international monitoring
