After years of turmoil, children in Gaza are finally stepping back into classrooms following a long-awaited ceasefire. This return marks a powerful moment of hope for families who have endured immense suffering during two years of war and displacement.
A New Chapter for Gaza Schools
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has reopened several Gaza schools. While setting up temporary learning spaces in damaged areas. So far, more than 25,000 children have resumed in-person classes. Nearly 300,000 students continue their education online due to infrastructure damage and ongoing safety concerns.
Many schools, including Al Hassaina School in Nuseirat, had been converted into shelters for displaced families. Now, these same buildings are being restored as teachers and volunteers work together to clean debris, repair furniture, and prepare classrooms for students.
For children like 11-year-old Warda Radwan, returning to school means more than just resuming lessons. It’s a symbol of healing and normalcy. “I just want to study again and be with my friends,” she said with a smile, holding her notebook tightly.
