Fitrana Amount for 2024 Announced in Pakistan

The Chairman of the Shariah Board Pakistan, Dr. Mufti Muhammad Zafar Iqbal Jalali, has unveiled the Fitrana amounts for 2024, emphasizing the significance of charitable giving and assistance to those in need during the holy month of Ramadan.

Dr. Jalali disclosed that the minimum amount for both Sadaqah Fitrana and Fidya for fasting in 2024 has been fixed at Rs. 300 per person. This obligatory contribution serves as a means of supporting the less fortunate members of society and upholding the spirit of compassion and solidarity.

Highlighting the obligation of fulfilling one’s duties according to individual means, Dr. Jalali urged those with the financial capacity to contribute generously towards these noble causes. He emphasized the importance of aiding those who are struggling and encouraged the wealthier segments of society to extend their support wholeheartedly.

For individuals unable to observe fasting due to health reasons, the Fidya amount has also been set at Rs. 300 per person. This provision is intended to assist individuals who are medically unable to fast, ensuring they can still fulfill their religious obligations during Ramadan.

Dr. Jalali further outlined the rates for Fidya based on different food items, such as Rs. 600 for oats, Rs. 2,400 for dates, and Rs. 4,400 for raisins, catering to the diverse needs of the fasting population.

However, it’s essential to note that Fidya is applicable only to those who are chronically ill or permanently unable to fast with no hope of recovery. Travelers and individuals temporarily unable to fast are encouraged to make up for missed fasts once they are able to do so, as Fidya cannot substitute for fasting.

In parallel with these announcements, the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Security has established the minimum Zakat amount at Rs. 135,179. Individuals holding savings or investment accounts with a balance equal to or exceeding this threshold are required to pay 2.5% Zakat on their total account balance. This initiative aims to bolster support for poverty alleviation efforts and assist those in need across the country.

As the holy month approaches, these initiatives underscore the importance of compassion, generosity, and solidarity within the community, ensuring that Ramadan becomes a period of not only spiritual reflection but also meaningful action towards alleviating the suffering of others.
