The federal government has approved advance salaries, allowances, and pensions for May 2026 ahead of Eid ul Azha. The decision aims to help government employees and pensioners manage holiday expenses more easily.
The Ministry of Finance confirmed that authorities will release payments on May 22 instead of the usual schedule. Officials expect Eid ul Azha to fall on May 27 or May 28, depending on moon sighting.
Finance Ministry releases payment instructions
The Finance Ministry directed the Controller General of Accounts to complete payments for federal employees and pensioners before Eid.
Officials issued the instructions under Rule 25(3) of the Federal Government Receipts and Payments Rules 2025. Deputy Secretary Muhammad Anwar signed the official notification.
The ministry also shared copies with the Accountant General Pakistan Revenues, Military Accountant General, and other related departments. Authorities asked all offices to ensure timely processing of payments.
Early payments to support Eid spending
The government often releases salaries and pensions early before major religious festivals. This step helps families prepare for Eid related expenses without financial pressure.
Many households increase spending during Eid ul Azha. Families usually spend more on travel, shopping, sacrificial animals, and gatherings.

The latest decision comes as inflation and rising prices continue to affect household budgets across Pakistan. Higher costs for food, transport, and daily essentials have increased financial pressure on many families.
Officials believe advance payments will help employees and pensioners plan Eid expenses more comfortably. Government departments will now begin arrangements to complete payments according to the revised schedule.
The announcement also reflects the government’s effort to support public sector workers during important religious occasions.
