NASA Denies Claim That Earth Will Lose Gravity in August

NASA has strongly denied a viral claim suggesting that Earth will temporarily lose its gravity for seven seconds in August. The conspiracy theory spread rapidly across social media platforms and caused confusion and fear among users worldwide.

According to the viral posts, Earth was expected to lose gravity on August 12 at exactly 14:33 GMT. The claim alleged that the brief gravity loss would lead to global chaos and could cause millions of deaths due to people falling uncontrollably. However, NASA has confirmed that the information is false and has no scientific basis.

The theory gained attention after users shared posts claiming the event would occur due to the gravitational effects of colliding black holes. Some posts further alleged that NASA was aware of the incident but chose not to inform the public. As a result, speculation continued to grow online.

NASA Explains Why the Claim Is False

NASA responded by clearly stating that Earth cannot suddenly lose its gravity. A spokesperson explained that gravity depends on Earth’s mass. Therefore, it would only disappear if the planet lost all of its mass at once, which is impossible.

Fact checking website Snopes also addressed the claim and quoted NASA officials rejecting the theory. According to NASA, Earth’s gravity comes from its core, mantle, crust, atmosphere, and oceans. Since none of these elements are at risk, gravity will remain unchanged.

The conspiracy also mentioned a supposed leaked NASA document linked to a project called Project Anchor. The posts claimed the program had a massive budget and detailed plans related to the gravity event. However, NASA has confirmed that no such project exists.

Despite official clarification, many users continued to question the denial. Some argued that the presence of a date, project name, and budget made the story believable. Still, experts stress that misinformation often uses detailed narratives to appear credible.

Scientists have explained that even major cosmic events, such as black hole collisions, do not affect Earth’s gravity in this manner. These events occur far from Earth and do not disrupt planetary physics.

NASA has urged the public to rely on verified scientific sources and avoid spreading unconfirmed claims. Officials emphasized the importance of critical thinking when encountering sensational stories online.

The agency also reminded users that gravity has remained constant for billions of years. No known natural or cosmic process could cause a sudden and temporary loss of gravity on Earth.

As misinformation continues to circulate on social media, experts advise users to verify claims through trusted scientific organizations. NASA reiterated that there is no danger related to gravity loss in August or at any other time.

The space agency has once again confirmed that Earth will remain stable and safe. The viral claim, according to NASA, is entirely false and should not be taken seriously.
