A tragic cloudburst at Babusar Top in Gilgit-Baltistan has triggered deadly flash floods, claiming the lives of at least five tourists. The sudden weather event occurred on July 22 and caused massive flooding that swept away over 15 vehicles in the area.
The cloudburst hit the Chilas region particularly hard, catching many travelers off guard. As heavy rains turned into powerful floodwaters, rescue teams rushed to the scene. So far, five bodies have been recovered, and four people have been rescued alive.

Rescue workers and local volunteers have been working tirelessly to find the missing. Overnight operations were paused due to poor visibility and dangerous terrain, but resumed at first light. According to Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq, rescue efforts are ongoing despite extremely challenging conditions.
In a heartening response, local villagers from Thak Babusar came forward to offer help. More than 100 stranded tourists have found shelter in nearby homes. Over 200 people have been safely rescued so far, thanks to quick action by emergency responders and support from the community.
