Basant celebrations in Lahore turned tragic after multiple kite-flying incidents left one person dead and four others injured across the city.
Rescue officials confirmed that a 25-year-old man, Ali Rashid, died in Baghbanpura near Sukh Nehar. He climbed an electricity pole to retrieve a cut kite and came into contact with live wires. Rescue teams shifted his body after completing legal formalities.
In a separate incident, a young man named Rafi sustained neck injuries in Defence Phase 5 when a sharp kite string hit him. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities also reported injuries in Gulshan Ravi. An eight-year-old child and a 45-year-old man were hurt in two different string-related incidents. Both victims received medical care at a local hospital.

Another incident occurred in the Lower Mall area, where a 12-year-old boy fell while running after a kite and suffered injuries. Rescue teams transported him to hospital without delay.
Officials warned that Basant-related accidents increase every year due to unsafe practices. They advised citizens to avoid chasing kites, climbing poles, and using sharp strings. Authorities urged the public to celebrate the Basant in Lahore responsibly to prevent further casualties.
