Rs 10.75 Billion Worth of Chicken Sold in Lahore During Basant Festival

Lahore witnessed a major surge in food consumption during the recent Basant celebrations as chicken sales crossed an estimated Rs 10.75 billion over three days. Market sources said the figure highlights the strong business activity generated by the festival across the city.

Basant is traditionally marked by kite flying, rooftop gatherings, and large family get-togethers. During these celebrations, households often arrange special meals, barbecues, and parties. As a result, chicken remained one of the most in-demand food items due to its affordability and versatility.

From barbecue and karahi to biryani and fried chicken, demand stayed high throughout Lahore. Retailers reported that customers continued to buy chicken in large quantities from morning until late night. Many families also placed advance orders to avoid shortages during peak hours.

Festive Demand Drives Strong Market Activity

Traders and shopkeepers noted a sharp increase in sales compared to regular days. Wholesale markets and retail outlets experienced heavy footfall, while small neighborhood shops also benefited from the surge in demand. To keep up, several vendors extended their working hours during the festival period.

Restaurants and catering services also saw a rush of orders. Many families preferred ready-made meals for their gatherings, which further boosted demand for chicken-based dishes. Food delivery services reported increased activity, especially during evening hours when rooftop events peaked.

The spike in chicken sales reflected the overall festive mood in the city. Large crowds, rooftop parties, and community celebrations created strong economic movement in multiple sectors. Along with basant chicken sales, sales of spices, soft drinks, bakery items, and cooking ingredients also increased significantly.

Business owners described the three days of Basant as highly profitable. Many small traders said the earnings during the festival matched or exceeded what they usually make in several regular weeks. For them, the event provided a much-needed boost amid rising costs.

The figures underline how cultural festivals play a vital role in supporting local markets. Beyond entertainment and tradition, Basant continues to drive economic activity and sustain livelihoods across Lahore, particularly in the food and beverage sector.
