A tragic maritime accident has claimed lives near the Indonesian island of Bali. According to the country’s Search and Rescue Agency, four people have died, 38 are missing, and 23 have survived after a ferry carrying 65 people sank late Wednesday night.
The vessel, identified as KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya, departed from Banyuwangi port in East Java province en route to Bali. Approximately 30 minutes into the journey, the ferry began to sink under yet-unconfirmed circumstances.

On board were 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and 22 vehicles, the rescue agency confirmed on Thursday. Emergency teams were dispatched quickly, and 23 people were successfully rescued. However, strong currents and harsh weather conditions have severely hampered search efforts.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the sinking. Initial reports suggest the boat may have been overloaded or encountered mechanical failure, both of which are common risks in Indonesia’s ferry network.
