Yango Ride has become the first ride hailing platform in Pakistan to secure an official Transport Network Company operating license from the Punjab Provincial Transport Authority. The approval marks a major development in the country’s growing digital mobility sector.
The license allows Yango Ride to operate under the Provincial Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2025. This law regulates ride hailing services across Punjab and introduces a formal framework for digital transport platforms. Authorities granted the license after months of coordination between Yango Ride, the Punjab Transport Ministry, and other government stakeholders.
New licensing framework aims to improve safety
The new regulatory framework focuses on improving oversight and setting clear operational standards for ride hailing companies. It introduces stricter safety protocols, better verification systems, and compliance measures designed to protect both drivers and passengers.
Yango Pakistan Country Manager Miral Sharif welcomed the development and acknowledged the role of authorities in the process. He said the company values its collaboration with regulators and remains committed to building a safe and reliable transport system.
He added that the license reflects Yango’s long term commitment to Pakistan and its willingness to meet regulatory standards. According to him, the approval also strengthens trust among users and partner drivers who rely on the platform for daily travel.
The licensing milestone comes at a time when ride hailing services continue to expand in major cities across Pakistan. With increasing demand for flexible and affordable transport, authorities have moved to create structured regulations for the sector.
Operating under a government approved framework provides companies with greater stability and reduces uncertainty linked to regulatory changes. It also ensures that service providers follow consistent rules across the province.
Pakistan’s Broader Technology Ecosystem
Industry observers see this move as a positive signal for Pakistan’s broader technology ecosystem. A clear regulatory environment can encourage investment and support innovation in digital services, especially in urban mobility.
Yango Ride has also taken steps to enhance safety features within its platform. The company is working with the Punjab Safe City Authority to integrate emergency helpline services into its app. This feature aims to improve response times and provide added security for users during rides.
The partnership with public institutions highlights the growing role of collaboration between private tech firms and government bodies. Such efforts can help create more reliable and secure transport options for residents in major cities.
The development also reflects a wider trend in Pakistan’s digital economy, where companies align their operations with evolving regulations. As more platforms enter the market, compliance with legal frameworks will likely become a key factor in long term success.
