WhatsApp is gearing up to launch a much-anticipated feature that will let users scan documents directly within the app no third-party tools. This WhatsApp New Update, revealed in beta version 2.25.18.29 for Android, signals a major step forward in simplifying how we share files and documents through chat.
Scan Documents Right Inside WhatsApp
Previously rolled out to iOS users earlier this year, the feature is now making its way to Android. With the WhatsApp New Update, a new “Scan Document” option will appear in the file-sharing menu. Tapping this will activate your phone’s camera with two modes:
- Manual Mode: You control when to capture the document, ensuring perfect alignment.
- Auto Mode: WhatsApp detects edges and snaps the image automatically for quicker sharing.

Auto PDF Conversion with End-to-End Encryption
Once captured, the document will be automatically converted into a PDF, making it instantly shareable within individual or group chats. All scanned documents remain protected by WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption. Importantly, nothing is uploaded or shared unless you explicitly send it, ensuring your data stays private.
Built for Android, Optimized for Speed
The new feature utilizes Android’s native APIs, meaning the entire scanning and conversion process takes place locally on your device. It also eliminates the need for apps like CamScanner or Adobe Scan, giving users a one-stop solution directly inside WhatsApp.
Coming Soon to a Phone Near You
While this feature isn’t publicly available just yet, its presence in beta testing confirms it’s on the way. WhatsApp has not announced an official release date, but users can expect the document scanner to roll out in a future update.
This WhatsApp New Update is more than just a quality-of-life improvement; it’s a meaningful upgrade for students, professionals, and anyone who needs to scan and send paperwork quickly, securely, and without leaving the chat.
