The UAE is experiencing one of its coldest stretches of the season. Meteorologists warn that temperatures will drop sharply across the country. This period, called the Shabat season, lasts until February 10. TheUAE coldest weather days typically fall between January 12 and 25.
Inland early-morning temperatures may fall below 5°C, while mountain regions could reach near-freezing levels. Coastal areas will stay slightly warmer because the sea retains heat. Daytime highs along the coast will range between 20°C and 22°C, while internal areas may see 22°C–24°C. Some desert locations could drop below 10°C after sunset.
UAE Coldest Weather Spell Expected Midweek
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) confirmed that the UAE coldest weather wave will begin around January 15–16. Temperatures may fall 7°C–8°C as cold air moves from the north. Western areas will feel the first drop, around 3°C–4°C. Other regions may experience an additional 5°C decrease within two days. Mountain areas may see temperatures below 10°C. Early-morning lows could fall to 5°C–7°C. Some desert areas cool faster after sunset.
Light rain is possible in northern regions like Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. Fresh to strong northwesterly winds will increase the wind chill, making it feel colder. Fog may appear, especially in internal areas.
What Residents Can Expect
The Shabat season brings dramatic temperature swings. Desert and mountain areas will experience the most noticeable cold. Coastal residents will feel milder conditions. Winds and early-morning fog will make the air feel even colder than the thermometer shows. People should wear warm clothing and drive carefully in fog-prone regions. Residents can enjoy the season safely by monitoring forecasts and preparing for sudden temperature drops.
