Trump Confirms Iran–Israel Ceasefire as Both Sides Step Back

A major development in the Middle East unfolded late Sunday night as former U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that a ceasefire agreement had been reached between Iran and Israel, effectively halting nearly two weeks of escalating military exchanges. The announcement came through Trump’s social media post, where he declared the beginning of a phased ceasefire that would first see Iran halt its attacks, followed by Israel twelve hours later.

The ceasefire comes after days of rising tension and direct missile strikes between the two countries. Iranian ballistic missiles had previously targeted Israeli military installations, while Israel launched retaliatory air raids on key Iranian sites, including near the Fordow nuclear facility. According to Trump, both sides showed “stamina, courage, and intelligence” in reaching the truce, which he described as the end of what he dubbed “The 12-Day War.”

Iranian state media quickly confirmed the agreement, stating that Iran had ceased hostilities and would not resume attacks unless provoked. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel had achieved its defense objectives and was now stepping back in accordance with the ceasefire deal. Although negotiators have not revealed full details, global diplomatic circles received the news with cautious relief.

Ceasefire Brings Regional Calm

The ceasefire also triggered the reopening of several Gulf-region airspaces. Countries including Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain had temporarily closed their air routes due to concerns over missile fallout. Those restrictions have now been lifted, and commercial flights have resumed in and out of major hubs like Dubai and Doha. In financial markets, the announcement led to a dip in global oil and gold prices, signaling reduced geopolitical anxiety among investors.

Though Trump no longer holds office, media outlets highly publicized his role in the ceasefire announcement, and many observers speculated that his informal behind-the-scenes diplomacy helped bring about the agreement. His post urged both nations to honor the deal and avoid further escalation.

Looking Ahead

The Iran–Israel ceasefire is currently holding, with no further attacks reported as of Monday morning. However, analysts remain cautious, noting that the truce is still in its early stages. The coming days will be crucial in determining whether both sides maintain their commitments or whether regional tensions flare up once again.

For now, the world watches closely, hoping this ceasefire marks the beginning of longer-term diplomatic stability in a region all too familiar with conflict.
